Former Waveney Valley Parliamentary Candidate
Cabinet Member for Local Government Reorganisation and NSIPs - Suffolk County Council

Richard grew up in Suffolk where his father was a Consultant and his mother an Occupational Therapist at West Suffolk Hospital. Richards father, of whom he has no memory, died of cancer when he was little over a year old. His legacy in the community inspired Richard to public service. He watched his mother work hard to support them and struggled personally and academically after she remarried but fortunately found a mentor in a local businessman who encouraged him to strive for success. These challenging early years shaped much of his outlook today.

Family values are incredibly important to him. He lives in Suffolk with his wife, Caroline, whose family home is in Mellis near Diss, and their five dogs.

Richard has experience across the private and public sector. His early career was spent advising Members of Parliament, parliamentary candidates and think tanks. This enabled him to learn, very quickly, how to get things done in Westminster. His work also focused on media relations and ensuring local communities benefitted from the best possible representation. Taking a break from the political sphere, Richard opened a gym which brought CrossFit to the community at an affordable price. During the same period, they diversified their small family farm through the creation of a wedding and events venue – now an award winning rural business. In 2017, he was elected to Suffolk County Council, where he served as Deputy Leader until 2024.

He is now the Cabinet Member for Local Government Reorganisation and NSIPs at Suffolk County Council
