Conservative campaigners have today launched a petition opposing plans by the Green-led District Councils in Mid Suffolk and East Suffolk to scrap fortnightly black bin collections.
These councils are proposing to cut back household waste services, despite residents continuing to pay more in council tax. Under their plans, black bin collections would be reduced, hitting families and households across Suffolk with less frequent service and more inconvenience.
In contrast, Conservative-run South Norfolk District Council has pledged to protect regular collections and stand up for council taxpayers. Refusing to pass the burden onto households, South Norfolk is maintaining the two-weekly black bin collection schedule, ensuring basic local services remain reliable.
Cllr Henry Lloyd said:
"People expect their bins to be collected on time. It's a basic service that they pay for through their council tax. These cuts from Green-run councils show a disregard for residents and a failure to prioritise the essentials. We're standing up for local people and launching this petition to send a clear message: hands off our bin collections."
