We are deeply saddened to share the news of the passing of Councillor Kevin Hurn.

Councillor Robert Savage:

It was with great sorrow that I learnt of the passing of Cllr Kevin Hurn far too soon. I send my condolences and sympathy to his wife Sharron and his family.

I was first told of Kevin’s interest in becoming a Councillor by the late Mrs Brenda Ford. So, I called round to visit Kevin and talk with him about life as a Councillor. I’m pleased to say that he agreed to stand as a Town Councillor for Central Wymondham in the 2015 elections.

He soon established himself as someone who would speak up for Wymondham, being suddenly thrown into the King’s Head Meadow saga from day one. He was then re-elected to town and elected to South Norfolk District Council in 2019 and re-elected to SNDC in 2023. All down to the work he did locally – Kevin was Mayor of Wymondham for four years, including through the Covid period.

Kevin achieved much for Wymondham during his time on the Council, a time I know he thoroughly enjoyed. I shall always remember Kevin as a true colleague who I was fortunate to share the same ward with. Kevin was well known throughout the town and his passing is a true loss to ourselves and to Wymondham.

Federation Chairman Kim Carsok:

Kevin Hurn was a Wymondham man through and through, widely active in the community.

He supported countless causes in the town, including the Dementia Support Group, Heritage Society, Lions, Community Outreach Project, Wymondham in Bloom and many others.

Through his work as a volunteer and as a Councillor he ensured these worthy causes benefited from grants to continue doing good in the community.

Kevin is spoken of highly by many people.

He always responded to emails, often very late at night, answering questions and doing his best to help.

His sudden loss is a shock and he will be deeply missed by all of us.

Former Councillor and Mayor of Wymondham, Joe Mooney:

Kevin was not just a great Councillor but also a great community champion. He was also a very nice man. May he rest in peace.
